Writers sprints??

Writers sprints??

Look at me adding so much content to my site today! I want to talk about writing sprints because I didn't know this had a name, or that a lot of people have no idea what it is!

Writing sprints are timed periods where you focus on just writing/editing/etc. I had no idea it had a name, but was introduced to the idea as a teenager by my aunt, who is a writer (unpublished). Set a timer for 10, 15, or 20 minutes and focus on whatever piece you are working on. After the time is up then you can take a step back and see the progress. For a lot of people it helps to see the progress, or it is less intimidating to only have to write for a few minutes at a time. Personally it helps me concentrate because it is only 15 minutes, at which point I can see the progress, and generally I'll restart the clock and go again and again.

I was recently part of a Reedsy live where they did writers sprints and it was a ton of fun! The hosts were answering a lot of questions, generally chatting, sharing their own writing, and then we had the sprints in between. They put on some music, threw a timer up, and then we wrote. When the time was up we could share what we wrote, or ask questions to the group. I loved the concept and I am looking forward to the next live!

Personally, I think I might host my own live on my twitch- Elliethewitch21- though I make the most aggressive concentration faces so that might be a bit awkward! I think it would be a great outlet for me, and maybe I'll find some people who are interested. It would be so cool to find some writing friends!! You'll have to let me know if you use writing sprints, have never heard of it before, or are going to try it out now!
